"Shiny Cage" is a song by Colin Moulding under the pseudonym "The Red Curtain". It appeared on the 1987 The Dukes of Stratosphear LP Psonic Psunspot and the co-released CD compilation Chips from the Chocolate Fireball.

QuotesEdit

Andy: “ ‘Shiny Cage’ was brought up by Colin for The Big Express originally, but we said no because it was too stupidly Beatley - it was everything from Revolver all smashed into one song. Epiphone guitar stabs, tabla playing, backward guitar, a dissonant but melodic George Harrison guitar solo . . . George Martin would probably have thought it up and played it on the piano and Harrison would have had to learn it. It was again an attempt to forge an era and an area but smash it and condense it all into one track.”

Gary Pig Gold: “ ‘I'm Only Sleeping’ chords and acoustic strumming. Touch of '66 Hollies, too (again). GREAT ending!!!”

LyricsEdit

Hiding faces turning pages

Still they read and read

Double deckers full of smokers

Look who's gone to seed

Well the sun's getting higher

Think I'll take a flyer

The thought of it's causing me pain

Ooh! Shiny Cage

Talk a walk under the subway

See an old school chum

Window shopping for a short while

Then we'll have some fun

Well the shops closing early

Everywhere's deserted

Hello and down comes the rain

Oooh! Shiny Cage

We'll do the town tonight

I know some girls then stop off for a bite

No strings to tie my kite

Well living for the night

No way to spend a life -- Ooh!
